Achievements Kenyan Kids
Since 2010, Helping Hands sponsors Kenyan Kids (locally known as La Familia), a non-profit association dedicated to rescuing vulnerable girls from family mistreatment, early marriage, physical and sexual abuse, and even female circumcision in Kisumu, Kenya.
Their initial project was centered on keeping them out of harm’s way, feeding them and providing the opportunity for them to attend school. Thanks to Familia, these girls now live in a completely different environment. They have a loving house mum who cares for them, a home they can shelter in, a bed to sleep in, clothes to wear, adequate nourishment, formal education, and above all a family that loves them.
In parallel, Kenyan Kids feed hungry children being left alone all day while their widowed mothers went out in search of food. What started with a feeding program for those little ones very soon burgeoned into a creche which then developed into a nursery school.
Since 2022, Kenyan Kids have a school, the Arc en Ciel Academy, which specifically aims at bringing nursery education to local children. As you can see, the classrooms are beautifully decorated and welcome up to 50 children between the ages of 3 and 6 years.
The first child enrolled was Fabian, the little boy who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. He loves school! They still have lots they want to achieve with the school – extending the classrooms to accommodate the children as they grow.
In 2025, from the little boy named Fabian, grew a thriving school of 80 children. From animal swamps came fresh, clean water. From frightened girls came university students like Phanice, now beginning her Bachelor’s in International Relations and Diplomacy at one of Kenya’s prestigious universities.
At the start of the 2023 school year, they had 27 enrollments, and now in 2025, they’ve grown to a thriving school of 80 children. They continue to work hard to bring to fruition a long-term dream of building a school for the local community.
Another long-term vision and ambition is to have access to transport which would encourage even more children (particularly those who live remotely) to attend to school.
In 2025, A new women-only coffee project is taking root on our farm in Kenya. See how we are helping women in Kenya plant hope for their families’ future.
Now, with pride, they’ve taken our most ambitious step yet and launching a women-only coffee project.
This project is inspired by Faith’s mum — a woman who once believed she had no hope of educating her daughters, in a community where women had no choice and no voice.
For the women they begin to employ, it will be daily hope – a chance for them to earn an income, stand tall and educate their children, particularly in a culture where boys are educated ahead of girls.
IThis project will be more than just growing coffee but they dream it will become a refuge — a place where abused women can run to when they need work, safety, and dignity. A place where their children can grow up free from fear of early marriage or abuse. They see another rescue home here, alongside the coffee fields, run by the women themselves and even a school where girls’ education is not optional, but expected.
Already, their first acre of land has been cleared, the holes have been dug, the soil has been richly prepared and the seedlings are ready. A bold new chapter has begun.
Our stories with the association
This small charity has a big heart! It’s dedicated to rescuing vulnerable girls, feed the village kids, ensuring their education, and now help women become entrepeuneurs!
At the heart of everything Kenyan Kids do is one simple vision: to create a community where women are recognised and valued, where education opens doors to dignity, leadership, and hope.
It is now 15 years that Helping Hands has been part in the future of these kids. Helping Hands and I am proud to be an indirect contributor to the support of these children and have the upmost respect for group of people involved in the future of these lovely group of kids!
