Achievements AlasCinco: let’s beat the
hunger monster!
AlasCinco is an association created in Bogota, Colombia to protect children from one of the poorest areas of the country through a self-sustaining social model. Helping Hands supported this association from 2022 to 2024.
Most of the kids were born originally in rural areas of Colombia where they needed to migrate because of violence and extereme poverty. Their parents are foreigners in Bogotá.
Most of the children helped by AlasCinco belong to single parent families and those mothers struggle to find a job.
The difficult economic situation in Colombia are making donations decrease.
Throughout 2025, the Foundation provided continuous support to 50 children, strengthening long-term processes focused on education, well-being, and personal development. This year marked an important transition, as 20 of those children entered adolescence, prompting them to adapt their approach toward a more holistic model that includes academic recognition, family involvement, and experiences that reinforce motivation and self-confidence.
As part of this effort, all 50 children participated in an educational and recreational field trip to one of Colombia’s leading parks. The Foundation coordinated transportation, meals, and supervision, using this experience as a way to recognize good academic performance and encourage positive habits.
In addition, we would like to highlight a special follow-up case. Sebastián, a child supported by the Foundation, suffered a serious bicycle accident last year that resulted in the loss of one of his legs. During 2025, Fundación AlasCinco coordinated an integral support process involving its family and strategic partners. Through an alliance with MedPlus and with the support of Fundación Manos Pintadas de Azul and Fundación CIREC, Sebastián was able to access a prosthetic limb and begin his rehabilitation process.
We are pleased to share that Sebastián has recently received his prosthesis and has started the next phase of his rehabilitation at CIREC. This milestone represents a new beginning for him and his family, who have expressed deep gratitude for the support received.
Our stories with the association
During the time I worked for Amadeus Colombia I had the opportunity to contribute with this association and was inspired by the passion how they work and overcome many difficulties they face everyday, this touched my heart.
I’m convinced that love and solidarity are the most powerful forces in this world and with a little of ourselves we can change a person’s life. When that person is a kid motivation is even bigger since we are giving opportunities for a better future and education.
AlasCinco is creating real opportunities for kids and is aiming to be 100% self–sustaining, meaning that in the future they shouldn’t need donations.
With “MOLA Granola” and more products and projects from AlasCinco, 46 kids (and hopefully more in the future) will have the opportunity to be sheltered by the association, to learn and to grow healthy and happy.
Please join us in this journey and help us help them!
